Nigel comes from a long line of casters on both his father and mother’s side. His parents, Aldo and Rebekah Calder, were among the first new officers following the reinstatement of casting and the creation of the Legion of Shadow Casters (LoSC). Thus they are highly regarded as some of the finest casters in Malgar. Far different from his parents, Nigel often struggles to feel he can live up to their legacy or expectations.

Timid and self-doubting, Nigel commits far more casting mistakes than his best friends and fellow peers Kaito and Sumi. Even so, he treasures his friendship with them above all. An admitted bookworm, Nigel loves studying shadow casting nearly as much as he does actually summoning creatures and weapons. Though he knows more about casting theory, practice, and law than his companions, he struggles with accidentally summoning the wrong creature. Weapons casting is his least favorite aspect of shadow casting.
